Depression
One step at a time, together we’ll unpack the painful thoughts, turning your stowaway baggage of the mind into the lighter cabin baggage.
Sadness is something that everyone goes through at some point in their lives. Depression, on the other hand, is more than that. Depression is defined as a state of severe sadness or despair that lasts longer than a few days. It obstructs regular tasks and might possibly cause physical discomfort. Depression, fortunately, is very absolutely treatable.
It's important to remember that we all have similar symptoms from time to time, and they don't necessarily indicate that you're depressed. Similarly, not everyone who is depressed will necessarily exhibit all of these symptoms below.
Some common depression symptoms could be expressed by your behaviour e.g., not going out anymore, withdrawing from close family and friends, relying on alcohol and sedatives, not doing usual enjoyable activities and unable to concentrate.
Feelings also get impacted by thoughts, so it could be you are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, guilty, lacking confidence, disappointed sad or unhappy. The thoughts that could be causing you pain could be ‘Life’s not worth living.,’ ‘It’s my fault.’, ‘I’m worthless.’ or “Nothing good ever happens to me.’
Physically you may be feeling tired all the time, sick and run down, you may have had significant weight gain or loss, sleep problems. As I mentioned above, a few of these are ok and we all experience these at times, however as a whole, it’s worth seeking help. Because you deserve and no question, can get back to be living a good quality life, simply by way of committing to help and then going at your pace, one step at a time.
If you feel that this could be you and you have yet spoken to a GP or Naturopath, I’d certainly recommend booking in to see one as they could “absolutely” work in well with counselling.
Working together from a holistic approach, I will help you work towards identifying life events that may have contributed to the experience of depression. I will help assist you in changing, accepting, or adapting to those circumstances. You will learn to recognise and control the negative thoughts and behaviour patterns that may have led you to experience depression. I will help you develop your abilities to manage the symptoms and in time replace the underlying negative beliefs with more of your positive beliefs you already pose. This will truly help you recognise and prevent future depressive thoughts.
Oh yes, one last thing, I know you’ve already had successes in your life overcoming challenges, so we will also be sure to utilise your strengths and past successes as a guide to achieving another success for you.
“Every mind deserves to be free. When the mind is free, that’s the end of suffering.”
— Byron Katie
